ASTM A36 Grade is Carbon Steel used in general construction and fabrication applications. This carbon steel grade maintains minimum physical attributes yielding 36,000 PSI and a minimum tensile of 58,000 PSI. ASTM A36 Steel Grade is used frequently throughout North America, particularly in New York and New Jersey. ASTM A36 carbon steel provides a wide range of standard construction uses. ASTM A572-GR50/A709-GR50 grade is a High Strength Low Alloy Steel is employed most often in steel plate construction applications, including the steel used in buildings and bridges, maintaining physical specs of a minimum yield of 50,000 PSI and a minimum tensile of 65,000 PSI. This steel grade is significantly stronger than other steel grades. ASTM A572-GR50/A709-GR50 High Strength Low Alloy Steel chemical composition has increased Carbon and Manganese and is employed commonly on structures that demand a higher strength. ASTM A572-GR50/A709-GR50 steel is better suited for use in impact-resistant conditions, known to be frequently deployed on larger construction equipment. ASTM A588 is another High Strength Low Alloy Steel, often referred to as Weathering Steel. Commonly used in bridges, ASTM A588 is utilized for highway construction; its characteristics include a minimum yield of 50,000 PSI and a minimum tensile of 60,000 PSI. ASTM A588 steel grade can also be formed to suit many construction needs, and its properties allow it to be welded easily. This High Strength metal is composed of multiple different metals and elements, including; an increased quantity of Copper, Nickel, Vanadium, molybdenum, and Chromium that provide Atmospheric corrosion resistance that is better than twice that of regular Carbon Steel. Because of the compounding of multiple metal elements, as the surface of the steel begins to rust, the rust progresses into a weathering barrier that coats and protects the inner steel, resisting most further corrosion. A great example of this is the guard rails on principal highways. These steel products are fabricated from A588 High Strength Low Alloy Steel/Weathering Steel material and look very rusted and old; however, the more they rust, the better the protective barrier becomes.

ASTM AR400 grade is another High Strength Low Alloy steel sold and fabricated by the Allied Steel Company of NY/NJ/NYC. ASTM AR400 grade qualities are highly resistant to abrasion and withstanding powerful impacts. Due to the merits of this steel, it is used routinely in heavy machinery, including excavating buckets. Mining equipment has this High-strength metal incorporated as they continuously contact harsh materials, including dirt, concrete, asphalt, and gravel. This material's wear resistance is approximately eight times greater than traditional mild steel. ASTM AR400 steel grade includes an increased level of Carbon and Manganese elements providing a yield strength of approximately 155,000 PSI and tensile strengths of about 180,000 PSI. This steel material is highly durable and hard and has limited ability to be formed. Examples of AR400 High Strength Low Alloy Steel type products include heavy equipment bucket liners, recycling chute & hopper liners, excavation equipment, mining equipment, and any application that involves scraping, wearing, and impact digging.
