Our 3rd 3D Photo Realistic Flitch Plate/Beam video showcases the option to use a steel I-Beam, with wooden members inserted for connection options, to create a stronger support or header beam without increasing the vertical size of a normal wooden beam. Many repairs, restoration work or new construction projects often require longer spans of support beams covering larger open spaces and using flitch plates to make flitch beams is the perfect solution. Other times construction projects simply require stronger header beams for room additions or upper level additions that result in higher structural load requirements.

By combing the strength of a steel I-Beam with wooden members allows you to achieve just that, meeting those higher strength requirements. Creating a stronger support beam or header beam (Flitch Beam) is done by inserting wooden members (wood-wood/steel I-Beam/wood-wood) and then through bolting each piece of wood and steel together. This style flitch beam is desired by many NJ and NY contractors, they are easy to work with and install. Also, the top and bottom flanges of the I-Beam can be drilled so to attach additional wood members for connection purposes. Exact structural load requirements are calculated by architects and engineers.
